In Washington DC, local prosecutors take the offense of leaving after colliding (more commonly referred to as "hit and run") very seriously.  Leaving after colliding resulting in property damage carries a maximum penalty of 30 days in jail and/or a $250 fine.  Leaving after colliding resulting in personal injury to another person carries a maximum penalty of 180 days in jail and/or a $1,000 fine.  The leaving after colliding law can be viewed in its entirety here.
